Commercial

1968

This is an awesome number if you ask me. Believe it or not I found this plate in Vermont.

1969, reflective

The X0A-000 format was not issued for very long.

1971, reflective

The XAA-00A format began around 1970. Plates were reflective until XDA.

Non-reflective.
March 1973

Towards the end of the straw base, plates were made of lighter weight aluminum.
c. 1979 sample

The XAA-00A series continued into the blue base and stopped at XZZ-99Z.
c. 1981 sample

July 1992
November 1999, first-generation 3M sheeting

Commercial vanities are available but not seen very often - probably viewed as an unnecessary expense.
August 1995, first-generation 3M sheeting

XAA0000 was the first format on the graphic base, with XAA1000 being the first plate issued. This plate isn't terribly far away from that.
September 1995, first-generation 3M sheeting

Just a nicer version of the 7-character format plate.
c. 1997, first-generation 3M sheeting

This is a pretty strange sample. The XAA-00A format was never issued on the graphic base, and besides, where's the state map divider?
November 1999, first-generation 3M sheeting

The X00-A00 format was the next one to be used. This is one of the first NJ plates I ever bought for my collection!
March 2001, first-generation 3M sheeting

Sequential numbers.

August 2001, first-generation 3M sheeting

After X00-A00 came X-0000A.
December 2002, first-generation 3M sheeting

This one has a passenger sticker.
February 2003, Avery sheeting

This is a remake!
June 2003, Avery sheeting

Somewhere between X-6138P & X-8458P, plates changed over to Avery sheeting.
c. 2003 sample, Avery sheeting

Another strange sample, considering this format hasn't been issued in many years.
March 2004, Avery sheeting

Another change: over to XA-100A in 2003.
February 2005, second-generation 3M sheeting

Around XB/XC series, plates changed to new 3M sheeting.
May 2007, second-generation 3M sheeting
February 2008, second-generation 3M sheeting
