This is a remake of an older plate - on a National/Alamo rental car, believe it or not.

In 1990, Vermont switched to narrow dies and a new format. These smaller dies can accomodate seven characters on one plate, though the current format uses six. Narrow dies plates started at AAB 100, making the plate to the left the second narrow dies plate ever issued. Pretty exciting stuff.

The paint does not hold up very well on select few of the plate issued, usually older ones, and this is the end result. The legibility on this must be terrible at a distance.

It's hard to see in the scan, but this plate's sheeting is peeling away to an extreme level. When I found this plate, it was submerged in water, so that might have had something to do with it.

This plate is weird because it has an old style 2005 sticker instead one of the new computerized ones. This is the only '05 I've seen like this on a normal passenger plate. A few types, such as municipal, are entitled to multi-year registrations, but this doesn't happen on passenger plates. It was most likely an error, though I suppose it could be a passenger plate registered to a municipality, perhaps as an unmarked police car...?

Here's an interesting pair. They're both the same number, but it looks like the bottom plate was made at a different time than the top plate judging by the color and spacing. Perhaps it was remade incorrectly, or the number was resurrected as a vanity. Either, way, it's a cool set.

This is the FIRST "E" series plate issued!

This plate has the orange T sticker. To be honest, I have no clue what it means, but I rarely see these on the road, so I'm keeping it.

This plate has a number zero and a letter O. Both the front and rear plates were like this.

A very clever attempt to fudge a sticker - taping a piece of paper over it.
March 2008, narrow dies, OLD style sticker

For some reason, this plate received an old style sticker instead one of the fancy new computerized ones with the plate number printed on.

Sticker is on the wrong side. Not a huge deal, but Vermonters are generally pretty good at following directions, so it's a bit unusual.

Can you spot the difference?

Look at the last character. The top plate has a letter O and the bottom has a number of 0. This seems to be happening more and more lately, though usually both plates have the error.
