Low number, but actually a sample plate hanging above a cubicle
in the DMV offices. |

These are pretty tough to spot. As far as I know this is the only
VT plate with a white background, but uses the same red as municipal
plates for the middle section. |

All of Dave's sheriff plate photos end in "8", and they
were also taken in the same geographic area. It may be a coincidence,
but we're also considering the possibility of these plates being
coded by last digit. Perhaps 8 denotes Grand Isle county? |

This is the only Sheriff plate I've seen so far that does not
end in "8", though I don't see very many. This photo
was taken in Burlington, so perhaps 5 denotes Chittenden county? |

This plate has a very cool sticker, as this is one of the very
few instances where a Courier-style renewal sticker is still on
the road. This font was only used for a little while around 2003
or 2004, and they are now mostly covered up by the new Helvetica-style
stickers. |

2012, narrow dies, new style sticker
Photographed in use
Starting in mid-2008, a new style of sheriff plate was introduced.
This one does not use the usual Vermont plate style at all, switching
to an all red background with a more ornate star on the left (probably
a decal of some sort), and a very corny western-style font. Reaction
has been mixed - personally I think they're hideous. This style
replaces all existing sheriff plates - no idea why a
replate of this type was necessary.
